Non-Profit Insurance

By October 25, 2023No Comments

Here at Baxter Insurance we love to help provide insurance for non-profits, by providing valuable insurance protection, and reducing insurance costs, so that every dollar saved can go back into the services that the non-profit provides. We also know that as your insurance back-office, we can save you time, so you can get back to your non-profits mission.

Non-Profits provide vital services for society. And yet when it comes to insurance, non-profits are unique in the insurance world. Many of the traditional insurance companies do not understand the nature of many non-profits. This can cause headaches for many non-profits.

Baxter Insurance has partnered with special non-profit insurers, who only provide insurance to non-profits, and understand what you do.

Here are some basics as to the types of insurance policies a non-profit could have in place:

  1. Commercial General Liability Insurance-

Commercial General Liability is a coverage that protects your nonprofit against risks like liability claims such as bodily injury, property damage, and personal injury lawsuits against the non-profit.

  2. Directors and Officers (D+O)  Liability Insurance-

Directors and Officers insurance protectors the board members, employees, and volunteers for their management and wrongful acts of the non-profit. But a good D+O policy can do much more than that. Some D+O policies also extend coverage to protect a non-profit against claims that come from harassment, discrimination, and wrongful termination.

  3. Commercial Auto Insurance-

If your non-profit owns autos, or has employees or volunteers driving their own cars on behalf of the non-profit, certain types of commercial auto insurance should be put into place. That could be commercial auto insurance on the vehicles that the non-profit owns. Or, a coverage called hired and non-owned auto, protecting the non-profit for claims stemming from volunteers or employees auto accidents when being used on behalf of the non-profit.

  4. Workers Compensation Insurance-

Any business that has employees is subject to workers compensation laws of their respective state. Workers compensation insurance is a policy that needs to be in place to cover the non-profit if an employee becomes injured or disabled stemming from a workplace injury.

  5. Business Owners Property Insurance-

If a non-profit owns property like a building, tools, or office property, that should be insured. Non-profit insurance companies that we work with make this easy and affordable to insure.

  6. Social Services Professional Liability-

If your non-profit works in the social services field, there is a special professional liability coverage that should be carried. This protects volunteers, employees, independent contractors, that can result from claims stemming from certain profesional services rendered in the social services field.

  7. Participant / Volunteer Accident Coverage-

This is a limited medical coverage for volunteers for participants that is a no-fault coverage. It may apply alongside or in addition to an individuals health insurance policy.
